Success of Irish language classes in Cork shows growing interest in the language

Cork – 11 January 2010 – Gaelchultúr has announced that its spring programme of Irish language evening classes in Cork will commence shortly. There is no let-up in demand for Irish classes in the city, with increased numbers attending Gaelchultúr’s courses each year.

Gaelchultúr’s spring course will commence between 1 - 4 February 2010 and classes will be held in Brú Columbanus in Wilton, where learners will attend a two-hour session one night a week for 12 weeks. Classes are available at five different levels, from complete beginners to advanced.

Gaelchultúr is organising an open evening in Brú Columbanus on Monday, 25 January from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m., which aims to provide more information about its classes.

Commenting on the success of the classes in Cork, Darren Ó Rodaigh, Director of Gaelchultúr said: “The popularity of our classes in Cork shows the value Cork people place on our culture and it is so encouraging to see the language being embraced by growing numbers each year. Gaelchultúr’s aim is to provide classes that enable adults to learn Irish in an enjoyable and effective way and we’re pleased that more and more people are choosing to attend our courses.”

Learners who want to find out what their level of competency in Irish is can try Gaelchultúr’s popular Online Placement Test which is available for free on its website, www.gaelchultur.com. Almost 10,000 people have completed this test to date.
